1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use our Service, we collect:

  • Account Information: Email address and name.
  • Military Background: If provided, branch of service, rank, years of service, specialty/MOS, status, and career field (optional).
  • Account Metadata: Creation timestamp and terms acceptance status.
  • Saved Financial and Planning Data: Information you choose to save in tools, such as net worth accounts and balances, portfolio positions, saved retirement scenarios, notification preferences, and transition timeline progress. Registered accounts sync this data through Firebase Firestore so it is available across your devices. Guest mode stores this data locally on your device only.
  • Ask Salute Request Data: When you use Ask Salute, we collect the selected tool, mode, preset question or custom question, usage-count metadata, and a bounded snapshot of app-computed facts needed to answer. For example, a net worth Ask Salute request may include aggregate totals and warnings but not account names. Guests cannot send Ask Salute requests.

Information Collected Automatically

We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized data, not linked to your identity, including:

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers.
  • Usage Data: How you interact with the Service.
  • Log Data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time and date.
  • Location Information: General country/region-level location data for app distribution and performance analytics only.

Push Notification Tokens

If you enable push notifications, we collect and store a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token for your device. This token is used solely to deliver notifications you have opted into. You may revoke this at any time by disabling notifications in your device or app settings. Tokens are removed from our servers when you sign out or delete your account.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain our Service.
  • Personalize your experience with relevant military transition resources.
  • Generate accurate compensation comparisons and retirement projections.
  • Improve our calculators and planning tools.
  • Communicate updates or changes to our Service.
  • Protect the security and integrity of our Service.

3. Data Storage and Security

  • Authentication: Firebase Authentication manages user accounts.
  • Analytics: Firebase Analytics collects anonymized usage data, not linked to your identity.
  • Data Storage: We store account profile data, saved scenarios, net worth data, portfolio data, preferences, timeline progress, subscription status, family configuration, and device notification tokens in Firebase services when you use a registered account.
  • Local Storage: Guest mode data and unsaved calculator drafts stay on your device and are not synced to our servers. If you want local-only use, use guest mode instead of creating or signing into an account.
  • AI Processing: Ask Salute requests are processed through our server and may be sent to a contracted AI model provider to generate the response. We design these requests to use app-computed facts rather than asking the model to perform core calculations. AI usage logs may be retained for security, rate limiting, reliability, and analytics.
  • Security: Firestore data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google Cloud. Access is restricted by Firebase Authentication and Firestore security rules so users can access only their own records unless they explicitly enable Family Plan sharing.
  • Data Breach Notification: In the event of a confirmed data breach, we will notify you via email and in-app within 72 hours, or as required by law.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information:

  • With service providers (e.g., Firebase, Stripe, RevenueCat, Vercel, PostHog, and AI model providers) under data protection contracts.
  • To comply with legal obligations.
  • To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property.
  • In connection with a business transfer, merger, or acquisition.
  • Family Plan (voluntary): If you use the Family Plan feature and link your account with a partner, certain profile information (e.g., rank, branch, years of service) and data you explicitly choose to share (e.g., retirement scenarios, net worth) will be visible to your linked partner. This sharing is entirely optional and you control what is shared via the Family Mode settings. You can unlink at any time to stop sharing.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We use Firebase (Google) for analytics, authentication, push notifications, and cloud storage; Vercel for web hosting; PostHog for product analytics; Stripe for web payment processing; RevenueCat for in-app purchase management; and AI model providers for Ask Salute responses. These providers have their own privacy policies and comply with applicable laws.

6. International Data Transfers

For users outside the U.S., your data may be transferred to the U.S. We use Standard Contractual Clauses for GDPR compliance to ensure data protection. Contact support@salutetosuit.com for details.

7. Advertising & Service Improvement

As of the Last Updated date, we do not serve advertisements. If introduced, we may use anonymized usage data to deliver relevant ads, compliant with Digital Advertising Alliance principles and applicable platform consent frameworks.

8. Your Choices and Rights

  • Account Deletion: You can delete your account via the Account Management section, removing synced profile, financial, planning, device, preference, subscription, and family data from our servers.
  • Data Rights: Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict processing, or port your data. Submit requests via the Account Management section or email support@salutetosuit.com. We will respond within 30 days.
  • Email Marketing: You can opt out of promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email. Service-related notices cannot be opted out of.

9. Data Retention

  • Account Information: Retained while your account is active; deleted immediately upon account deletion.
  • Synced Financial and Planning Data: Retained while your account is active so your tools work across devices; deleted when your account is deleted, subject to backup and legal retention requirements.
  • Analytics Data: Retained for 12 months to analyze patterns.
  • Local Device Data: Stored on your device until you delete the app or clear app data.

10. Children's Privacy

Our Service is for users 17+ and not relevant for users under 17. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 per COPPA. Contact support@salutetosuit.com for removal if data is collected.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We review our Privacy Policy annually and notify you of changes via in-app notification, email, or website prompt.
